Agendas: Agendas are provided for each student. These are wonderful communication tools, feel free to leave me a note to read in your child's agenda; as well, I may leave one for you. We will record homework and important dates/notices will be sent home in the agenda. At school, your child’s agenda will get a stamp once completed. Please be sure to check and sign your child's agenda each day and then have them put it back in their backpack so it is returned daily.
Spelling: Two choose ones are due on Tuesday. Spelling tests are Wednesday. Thursday new spelling is given out. Expectations of classwork and the choices for Choose One are in the grey spelling duotang.
P.O.W: Problem of the week is a math word problem that is given out Monday and due on Thursday.
Water Bottles: Keeping hydrated is important for good health; therefore, students may bring a water bottle to school to leave on their desk. Should you wish to send a labeled water bottle to school, please ensure it is a bottle with a pop up top so that the water cannot spill easily if it is knocked over.
Learning Commons: Our book exchange day is Thursday. However, the learning commons is available for your child to exchange books if they finish early during the week.
Music: Music with Mrs. Enns is on Tuesday, Wednesdays (choral) and Thursdays.
Physical Education: Your child is expected to participate in physical activities everyday at school. Your child will need to have indoor running shoes.
Homework: Homework will be written in your child’s agenda. Home Reading will be assigned each day with math assigned as needed. Word Work (Spelling) will begin mid September . Any assignments that are not completed within the allotted class time may also be assigned for homework. POW (problem of the week) will be sent home Monday and due back completed Thursday.
Home Reading (H. R.) Program: I believe an at-home reading program is extremely important for a child’s success in school. I expect the children to read aloud or silently for at least 20 minutes each day. They need to record their reading minutes in their agenda each day. As parents, we can find it challenging to have our child read each day. Besides traditional literature; reading can include recipes, maps, brochures, flyers and restaurant menus.
Scholastic Book Orders will be given out several times this year. This is an optional program to purchase books. You can pay online and then submit your paper order to me or write a cheque to Scholastic Canada Inc along with your paper order. NO CASH, cheques or online only.
